Ignazio Bufi, 99, of Maywood, New Jersey, formerly of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 28, 1927 in Molfetta, Bari, Italy, to Carmine and Maria (Tatulli) Bufi, and shared 64 years of beautiful marriage with the love of his life, Antonia (DePinto) Bufi - together they built a life that always centered on family.

As a young man, Ignazio worked tirelessly building his craft as a master plasterman. Working in Caracas, Venezuela over the course of 17 years, then in Italy, and finally in the US when he and his young family moved in May 1967, shaping his legacy in America. They lived in Hoboken before moving to Jersey City in 1970, and spent the last 31 years in Maywood.

Ignazio worked for major construction companies across the country. He took great pride in helping build some of America's best-known landmarks, including the United States Military Academy at West Point, the World Trade Center, JFK Airport, and finally Newark Airport, his final project before he retired at 63. He was a proud member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for more than 50 years, and was honored as the group's longest standing member at that time.

Ignazio was never at a loss for words. He loved telling stories about his many adventures and all the things he had seen in his lifetime, and his family was never tired of hearing them. Wherever he lived, he turned his backyard into a full garden. Thirty-five rose bushes framed his yard, and every year he planted more than 100 tomato plants along with various other fruits and vegetables he was so proud to nourish, such as eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers & figs, to name a few. He loved watching soccer and enjoying the beach, but nothing made him happier than time with his family.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Antonia; his brother Corrado; and Corrado's wife, Maria Bufi.

He was the devoted father of Anna Maria (Nick) Cirilli, Carmine (Ann Marie) Bufi and Antonella (Albert) Bove. He was the loving Nonno of Terese (Joseph), Nicholas (Tiffany), Carmine (Andrea), Annalisa (David), Anthony, Gianluca (fiancée, Francesca), and Alexa. He was especially proud of his three great-grandchildren, Carmine Jr., Lilianna and Gianella, and will be greatly missed by countless nieces, nephews & cousins both in the US and in Italy.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 3pm to 7pm at Ippolito Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ 07071. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 19, 2026, at 10:30am at Saint Francis Church, Hoboken, NJ followed by entombment at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ.
