Gary Michael Jacobsen, known affectionately as Gary to his friends and family, passed away on September 15, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on November 13, 1966, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Gary's kind-hearted spirit and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Gary's life was one of dedication and service. He attended Bayonne High School, where he built lifelong friendships and cultivated his love for sports and music. After high school, Gary committed himself to a career in the food service industry. He spent many years as the Receiving Manager for the Food Service Department at the Bayonne Board of Education, where his reliability and work ethic were recognized by all. Gary also worked diligently as receiving and stocking personnel at the local Stop & Shop, contributing to the community he so loved.
Family was the cornerstone of Gary's life. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Allison Jacobsen, who was the light of his life, and his devoted mother, Sandra Weiss (nee Leboff) and his stepfather Gary Weiss. He is also survived by his sister Elaine Spuma (Kenneth), his niece Taylor Spuma, nephew Kenneth Spuma, Jr., as well as close family friends Genesis and Madison Velasquez. He was predeceased by his father, Melvin Jacobsen. Gary's role as a father he cherished above all else, and the bond he shared with his daughter was unbreakable.
Gary's interests and hobbies were reflective of his jovial and friendly nature. An avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement of game days, often surrounded by friends and fellow fans. Bowling was another of Gary's pastimes, where he could both relax and engage in friendly competition. Music, or as he would playfully call it, "his" music, was a constant in Gary's life, providing a soundtrack to the many memorable moments he shared with those around him.
Described by those who knew him as kind, funny, loyal and friendly, Gary had an uncanny ability to brighten a room with his humor and warmth. He approached life with a gentle kindness that drew people to him, and his sense of humor was a gift that he generously shared, bringing laughter and light-heartedness to even the most mundane moments.
As we bid farewell to Gary Michael Jacobsen, we celebrate a life lived with joy, love, and a touch of humor. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told and memories shared by those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Gary's legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Memorial gathering will be on Wednesday, October 1st, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Caiola-Stellato Funeral Home, 691 Avenue C. Bayonne, NJ
